The story of Eagle Valley Bank is one built on generations of trust, local leadership, and a steadfast commitment to the communities of West Central Illinois.
Our roots stretch back more than 130 years to 1893, when Bank of Bluffs first opened its doors to serve the residents, farmers, and businesses of Scott County. At a time when relationships mattered more than transactions, the bank earned its reputation by helping neighbors weather changing seasons, economic challenges, and generations of growth.
Fifty years later, another chapter began just a few counties away. In 1942, a group of Griggsville business leaders and citizens came together with a shared vision of creating a locally owned community bank. After raising the necessary capital and receiving its national charter, Farmers National Bank of Griggsville officially opened on February 13, 1943, welcoming customers with more than $140,000 in deposits on its very first day.
As the decades passed, Farmers National Bank grew alongside the communities it served. New branches were established in Milton, Mt. Sterling, and Pittsfield, while the bank remained committed to local ownership and local decision-making. Much of its rich history remains visible today in the original Griggsville office, where the beautifully crafted walnut teller counter—dating back to the 1870s—still welcomes customers. Historic lobby desks and a mantle clock, once featured in the former Griggsville National Bank, serve as lasting reminders of the bank’s heritage. When additional branches were constructed, local craftsmen carefully replicated the distinctive counter design, carrying a piece of history into each new location.
Throughout their histories, both Bank of Bluffs and Farmers National Bank shared the same philosophy: banking should be personal. Decisions should be made locally, relationships should come before transactions, and a community bank should invest in the people and businesses that help its hometowns thrive.
In 2025, these two respected institutions united to become Eagle Valley Bank, bringing together more than two centuries of combined community banking experience under one name. While our name has changed, the values that built both organizations remain the foundation of everything we do.
Today, Eagle Valley Bank proudly serves customers throughout Bluffs, Griggsville, Meredosia, Mt. Sterling, and Pittsfield. Our team continues the tradition established by those early founders—providing personalized service, making local decisions, and building lasting relationships with every customer we serve.
Because at Eagle Valley Bank, our history isn’t simply measured in years—it’s measured in generations of neighbors helping neighbors succeed.
